Library

Collected here are primary and secondary sources about the Dixies and their ancestors. They are arranged by type and then by date within type. Over time the idea is to link them to the genealogy section but at the moment they are presented as is. Not all of these sections are complete, I am waiting on some of the information from my next trip to the library.

Wills

The UK Public Records Office has put all the wills proved in the Perogative Court of Canterbury (PCC) online. Indexes for wills proved in other places are variable and most of the wills are not easily accessable. Some of the Dixies had PCC wills but many others were proved at Leicester. Later Dixies have Canadian and Welsh wills, some of which I have.

IPMs

Until 1620 when feudal tenure was abolished inquisitons post mortem were conducted on the death of landowners. Their purpose was to determine who was the overlord of the land and who was the heir.

Wolston Dixie the Lord Mayor of London has an extensive IPM and IPMs exist for a number of early Dixies, some of whom the relationships to the Dixie baronetcy line are not clear.

Property

Surprisingly for such a rich family there are very few property transactions involving the Dixies. Collected here are the primary references in the various online catalogues. Over time it is hoped full copies of these will be added to the site. There are also references to Dixie property in various 19th century directories.

Secondary

This is a collection of mentions of the Dixies and related family members in secondary sources.
